Was asking to hang

This report covers 60 minutes with the subject referred to here as S., on Thursday, September 3, beginning at 7:00 pm, at a dive bar next door to a concert venue. The cost was $32.00.

It was not a date. I was taking a friend to a show and we stopped for drinks first. S. was already at the bar, at the end of it, on her own. The evening is on this site because of what it did to the figures.

It is also the first entry here with a subject other than M. That account closed on August 18, at $2,570.94 and 120 days. This one opened 16 days later, by accident, because a friend of mine started a conversation.

The question at minute 10

My friend started talking to her. She introduced us. About 10 minutes in, S. asked whether my friend and I were together, and we both said no, we are just friends.

The tone changed on the answer.

That is the whole mechanism of this evening and it took one question and one word. Before minute 10 I was a person standing next to someone she was talking to. After minute 10 I was the subject of the conversation. Nothing else changed. I had not said anything, bought anything, proposed anything, or been anywhere.

The invitation

I asked whether she would like to come next door to the show with us. She said yes.

About 30 minutes later, when we got up to go, she declined and said she would stay for another drink.

That is 1 outing proposed by me, accepted, and withdrawn inside 30 minutes, which is the shortest interval between agreement and reversal in the file. The previous record was 19 days.

I asked whether I could get her number and take her out sometime soon. She took my phone and called herself.

The wall

My friend and I went next door. Ten minutes after we left the bar, the first message arrived:

“i’m going to watch music videos on my couch with all my boxes if you want to enjoy that scene lol”

I did not answer it. I was at a concert, which makes this the first message in the file to go unanswered because the narrator was standing in a room he had bought a ticket for.

The boxes are worth a line. The invitation was issued from inside a room that was not unpacked, 10 minutes after I walked out of the bar, and the state of the room is the only fact about her circumstances that this form holds. It arrived unprompted.

About 30 minutes later S. walked into the venue. She walked past my friend and me, where we were dancing, to be seen doing it. I said hello. She went and stood against a wall.

The performer was Jeru the Damaja. During a song called “Da Bitches” he asked the room to put its hands up. S. raised both middle fingers toward the stage. He stopped the song and addressed her directly. The line, reconstructed from memory in a loud room, was that if she had been listening at the beginning she would know she is not one of them. She said something back. He acknowledged it and finished the song, and after it he made a further remark about obedient women. She left the venue.

I was 20 feet away. I had invited her out 90 minutes earlier and she had walked into the room on the strength of it. I stood where I was and kept dancing, and I am not going to characterize the exchange from the stage, because the only conduct on this form that is mine is that I did nothing during it and said nothing about it afterward.

11:30 pm

I drove my friend home and drove myself home. At 11:30 pm I looked at my phone.

S.: “free?”

Me: “Hey! Sorry I was driving, just got home. You doing ok? I can’t imagine that event made your night any better.”

S.: “so no hang?”

Me: “Not tonight. But I’d love to, in the near future. Being completely up front. I’m very attracted to you. But I don’t move that fast, and I don’t do one-night stands. Feel me?”

S.: “jesus was asking to hang not fuck, nevermind”

She asked a 1-word question. I answered with a disclosure of attraction, a statement about pace, and a policy on one-night stands, which is 44 words and 3 terms of an agreement covering a transaction that had not been proposed.

This site has 16 unredeemed handwritten policies in a glass box in another house, written in July, against failures that had not happened yet. On September 3 I issued another one by text at 11:30 pm, to somebody who had typed the word “free?”.

That is the second thing on this form that is mine.

The column I could not fill

There is no paid row in the panel below, and this is the first entry where that is true.

S. was at the bar before we arrived and stayed after we left. I paid $32.00 for what my friend and I drank. What S. spent on her own evening is not known to me and is not going in a column as $0.00, because a zero is a measurement and this is an absence.

Every previous entry on this site has been able to state what the other party contributed. Sixteen times the figure was $0.00, and each time it was $0.00 because I had reached first at a table I had booked. The one evening I did not book anything is the one evening I cannot fill the column in.
