ASU Art Museum is always free. It is open Friday to Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm, and its page
also lists Wednesday and Thursday, so check before you go midweek.
Take the light rail to Tempe, $4 each for a 1-day pass

Arrive at 1, and leave the rest of the afternoon for Mill Avenue.
If it goes well, eat on Mill Avenue. That part is yours to price.
You both came by train, so either of you can leave from the same platform, and nobody has to be driven home.
